What is Pilates?

Pilates (puh-LAH-teez) is a method of body conditioning developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920's. Pilates primary principle is for both the body and the mind to work together towards creating an inner and outer balance. While focusing on core strength, lengthening and strengthening of the entire body takes place with virtually no impact on your joints. Pilates requires concentration, control and precision to achieve optimal results.

Pilates has many benefits including an overall increase in flexibility, muscle tone, core strength, posture and balance. Many people experience relief in lower back and neck pain and increased stability in their knees. Pilates also increases lung capacity and circulation through the deep, consistent breathing patterns.
